Star Chart

We draw constellations with our footprints
in wet sand, a map key.
Count the waves in symbols and lines
instead of hours. Stars
where the water erases,
return to find them freshly drawn.

Who the sea forgets,
we remember.

Stephanie Tobia holds a Doctorate in Medical Humanities and MFA in Poetry from Drew University.
