Exile

Spooked zebra gallop across the
Gravel flatlands of Namibia's Naukluft Park,
Then the whiff of fish and the bite of Atlantic sea-spray
Swarms through my car at Walvis Bay, but
She's not here either, she's never where she's supposed to be,
Her mother in Windhoek tells me, 'Don't come back'

Can't find her in Cape Town,
Five days out, tucked in with the Royal Mail,
Marooned on Napoleon's St Helena
Exiled by choice
Drunk and disorderly at the Prince George
Asked to leave, made to leave,

Tottering boat down to the bitterly beautiful
Tristan da Cunha, in a shack eaten by the overly salted air
The wind doesn't cease here, but I stop hereIt all stops here
