Karen Neuberg
Negative Space
after Georgio Caproni's The Last Homecoming
I draw the negative space
around objects in memory.
Forms emerge—the table
that was never there, set
with a feast never prepared.
You sitting with a smile
meant for me, though I never
knew you, never even met you,
never even dreamed you.
Seeing you now, how can I
not miss you?
