Karen Neuberg
My Garden
I water carefully what needs
no water. What needs no air,
no sunlight, no moon shining
down. Yet, I commit this and more—
a lasting love—to each of them,
say their names, not all at once,
but as they rise in my mind
over days' time and weeks
and months into years.
See how my garden extends
like a cemetery.
