mike sluchinski
soft poetry bit twice (for sinai)
there's something in a sunset
soft orange desert sand and i hear
the call to prayer and someone
ties goats to a fence and a fire
is lit in a tire rim for water
boiled to be tea not yet
some eat white flour biscuits
and another cuts melon
in the silence no birds
or crickets interrupt nightfall
black skies creep down
and dance on the dunes
and small fires erupt
waving like friends across the sand
and your eyes open like a book of poetry
staring into mine
