Maryanne Hannan
Reciprocity
(haibun)
Someone told me if I'm bored by someone, chances are he's likewise bored by me. In this case, you'll notice I used the masculine pronoun, not as a gender slam, but as is the norm in our language. It probably would apply to women as well, but I'm not usually as bored by women, as I am by men. In all honesty. No aspersions cast. Does this mean men find me more boring than women do? This, by the way, might be my opening line in casual conversation. And you're right. My audience is often bored. All genders.

Bio
A resident of upstate New York, Maryanne Hannan has published haibun and short poetry in Citron Review: A Journal of Brief Literature, drifting sands haibun, and the now defunct but aptly named publication, Short, Fast and Deadly. She discovered the prose poem several years ago and has been whittling them down ever since.
