Housewarming
We light candles
to convince the walls
we belong.
Laughter climbs corners
where silence used to live,
hangs like new paint.
In the kitchen,
someone spills wine
a blessing,
or the first crack.
Shadows lean closer,
listening for our claim.
The floor creaks,
as if testing our weight.
We raise a toast,
and the house exhales,
finally learning our names.
