An icon in profile

Thank you for the sunburned day,
The way you look for my eyes,
Your painted fingertips on my shoulder,
Four feet on the beach, two hands holding,

When we kiss in the kitchen it's
Not the same as kissing in the bedroom, or
Kissing each other goodbye, or
When we first kissed in the cinema, I kissed your hand,

Your composed smile among
Tree colours changing,
Afternoon sun uncloaked you are
A luminous icon in profile,
The cadence of willowing wheat,
Fenceline of birds entranced.
