The ancient oak atop the hill knows a secret:
That period is a circle rather than a line.
It writes its years within itself,
holds every drought, every spring.
The wind that today combs its leaves
has searched a thousand times previously.
It relates tales of the lost.
in noiseless, wordless poems.
I come to know its patient tongue.
To repose in the shadow of it.
It provides neither need nor forewarning.
only the tranquility it has created.
And I see in the dotted light
I am merely one leaf.
on the old, live tree, however
that encompasses both pleasure and anguish.
