Body Wholly Body

(English Sonnet)

In slacks and bulky sweater she stood tall
to shout her verse lambasting those who speak
of her long legs and perky breasts. Not all
these noticers are boys and men who seek
affection or a mate. Her aunts and mom
with distaff pride critique her poise and face.
While priests and counselors abrade her calm
she fine tunes makeup, hair, and clothes to place
the woman she believes she is to eyes
of tribesmen hoping she will smile and nod.
Our species' future needs her flesh to rise
embrace the breeding dance though tense and odd.
All angst and introspection will be done
once she endures time with her teenage son.
