Malice

In your heart you know what's out there

is just
benign indifference. Still—

climbing up to the fourteen-thousand foot summit

a single snowflake
falls.

You put on your coat.
Then it tries to kill you.

George Young is a retired internal medicine physician living in Boulder, Colorado, and has had two chapbooks and two full length, prize winning collections of poems published. Lately, he has become a huge fan of short poems, following the dictum of Shakespeare that "brevity is the soul of wit."
