The Unknown Score

Arching off into the distance,
Telegraph wires sag under the weight
Of a multitude of quivering crotchets and quavers,
Feathery notes of fickle disposition
Which skip and hop along the staff,
Ready to stake their pitch anew.

Each has a story to tell,
But those driving by, below, never stop to listen.
So the notes ruffle on,
Awaiting a maestro who will one day come,
To unlock the secrets of the Unknown Score.
