April Weeps

April weeps despite her treasures
gold of forsythia, ruby azalea
why this shower of tears?
crying for the magnolias bloomed
still bleeding from the heart

I am a poet and novelist, in that order. My work has appeared in The Café Review, Freefall, Speakeasy, and over 300 national and international journals. Of my eight published novels, The Coyote Hunter of Aquidneck Island (2017, The Permanent Press) was nominated for the National Book Award and Foreword Reviews' Multi-Cultural Book of the Year. I live in Chicago with my wife Helen, and continue to tutor and edit along with my writing.
