Yellow Dinghy

I lived with electrical storms
Father's temper, Mother's silence,

the drifting of the blues and greys
of sky and sea

a ghost ship endlessly sinking.

There were days where the world
turned on a word,

and I would wake to find
that the sun had been shot down,

I would find it floating in the ocean.

With thin filaments of hope, slight
gossamer strands,

I would swim to the heart of its wreckage,
fashion it into a yellow dinghy,

shelter in its' shallow bowl.
