Agates

After the war
my father came home
with rocks cut in half
outsides drab and craggy
insides polished to glass.
Staring at cloudy shapes
behind window-like surfaces,
I think about my father:
A blue tyrannosaurus
with a frog on its shoulder,
a baying dog with his back
covered in flames.
