Paul Ilechko
Aftermath
The fields of metal
covered in a thin film of snow
that will be gone by morning
trucks loaded with brick
or lumber
navigate highways
past the piles
of ruined furniture
the church bells sitting lonely
at the edge of the asphalt
as if the last items available
in God's rummage sale
drivers who still have gasoline
wave to each other as they pass
all engrossed in the silence
emitted by their radios.
