Kathy Raymond
At Gramma's House
A parakeet named Professor
sang to his green image in a mirror
while Gramma set her rocker in motion
and did the rosary, her thumb
and index finger not missing a bead
as she lip synced prayers in Polish.
My lips quivered with a question
about whether or not God understood
all languages, human and animal,
even the silence of girls and women.
