Winter Street

We danced in the rain among rootless objects,
in wavering Odissi move, in soft applause.

Want to return you my solitude with the day
wanders and wanes in earth's diurnal course,

Distance expands, between us , voiceless as a
stolen alphabet, with surging gentleness and grace.

Long shadows break and fall from the trees
waiting for your phrase and the unknown script.

Some tender, some teasing streaks of light and
last night's prayers; collect them in your notebook.

Then it means something, may be not, you try to
answer the sky; there are clouds in my eyes,

We pause for the narrative to cover our gentle souls
lying at the corner of the crisp white winter street.
