Bio

Keith Nunes (Aotearoa-New Zealand) has had poetry, fiction, haiku and visuals published around the globe. He creates ethereal manifestations as a way of communicating with the outside world. Nunes writes when the light pings and the only voices to be heard are in his head. He's entertained by Kurt Vonnegut's hopes, Cole Swenson's descriptions, Lydia Davis's prose and Denis Johnson's heroines, and so on. He plans to evolve into a particle. He is currently related to Pessoa.

In the Ainu Sky

A nameless star is caught in the wishbone fork of a birch tree
Shortly before the winter night comes to an end,
In profile the tree's branches resemble a child's scrawling,
A bearded Ainu man is watching the motionless scene,
It's surprisingly mild in Hokkaido this night, he's patiently
Waiting for the moon to come hang in his window,
He holds his young daughter in his arms, this will be the child's
Introduction to the lustrous night sky, he is at a loss to
Explain the satellite steadily encroaching on the spectacle,
His wife tells their daughter this new star is in a hurry to cross
The sky to be with its parents on this special day, its naming day.
