Cradles

Stared at the blood
sacred toilet bowl — I asked God
to replace this time warp with
cradles and yellow daffodils.

I should know better
than anyone — children can't fix
broken love songs stitched by ticking time bombs
but we needed something to hold onto.

A beautiful painting like stained glass
I saw the future — and as I threw
palm-sized shoes into garbage bags,
I looked back from the other side.

Hidden away nesting or decaying
your apathy is just like a father's — and when I soak our pillows
instead of pulling me close
you could blame it on the hormones.
