David Stephenson
Anger Like Acid
Anger like acid eats through everything
hissing as it trails corrosive smoke
and leaving melted stubble in its wake.
Anger like wind arrives in gusts and waves
rattling window panes and slamming doors
and scattering debris along its course.
Anger like liquor gets into your blood
becoming first a habit, then a need,
the gall you drink, the acrid air you breathe.
Anger like a dog stuck in a cage
growls and howls and yanks against its chain
and then gives up, with nothing having changed.
