Richard L. Matta
Release
a trellised red bougainvillea
petals away from its vine
loiters briefly on my palm
and enters the choppy bay
a vast thick grey cloud
fills the sky a ship splits
the bay creates a new fold
I turn a sheet of origami
into a crane a promise
to release the freight
of endless unopened doors
corridors unexplored
all the tendrils scratching
through sleepless nights
