Marc Darnell
Survival Kit
I require fortes
of Chopin arpeggios– his ruby
necklaces around my heart on days
joy leaves me,
and I'll go on. I live if feral
trails of Pollack's paint
black and red wash clear my sere well
of bitter sediment,
if one bloom of fuchsia impatiens
like the roseate face of
a newborn magnifies my lens,
if tides of Rachmaninov
wash across my shored bones.
All these keep me from staying a stone.
