Richard L. Matta
Exodus
Seafaring alone
a starlit ripple
stretches my imagination
beyond sight
beyond reason
into the tale-telling eyes
of a brown falcon
who soars high above the coasts
of Greece, Spain, and Italy—
watches refugees
in their patched rafts
traversing perilous paths
from inhumanity and misery.
A body jettisoned from
an overfilled boat.
An awakening
to ripples
of freedom.
