As if
Golden Shovel format poem.

Back before we were the older ones, a
time of only sunlight and song, no quiet, no darkness,
we never imaged less time than there was,
imagined grandparents and parents would always
be there and there
would be their warnings which
we always took for granted since we
lived as if life was now-or-never
and as if we never noticed.

I began writing poetry during a long illness. I teach at both Mercer County and Raritan Valley Community Colleges in central NJ.
