Convalescing
for Emily D
A bedridden day, I look
for something the shape of hope
beyond the loughside window.
Common birds on pinnacles,
gull, pigeon, crow.
I see them on the apex
of the nearby terrace homes,
perched upon the rooftops
between here and the sea.
They show up every morning,
my longtime worldly lookouts,
my avian guardians.
