Charles D. Tarlton
Guilford Town Beach
In some foreign story about sailors,
we are there,
the tiny menhaden jumping,
the bay flat and lit by sunlight.
Sailors? No! But seagulls wading
in the shallows (fishing),
the sea calm as it reaches the sand
in a lisp, over and over,
tiny, wrinkled lips on to the sand.
