Split Happiness

Fulfilment curdles like milk
In the old iron pan of the heart
That's borne many a fire.

The soft, spongy clumps of cheese
Coagulate like islands of hope
In an ocean of whey,

A teaspoon of rennet
Is all that it took to sour
Those trusted ties of love.

The integrity of ink
Would be a better drink
Than this split happiness, I think.
