Your voice crackles
through the phone like the spark
of life returned
to these weary limbs, a touch
from another world to the crumbling
ruin of my life. It is quiet

here, as always, hushed
like a shelter forever
in the rain, grey memories
all that linger to remind me
that I was someone else
once.
