These dreams have walls; painted like the distance in a movie
And the people here are the staff
who stop me from reaching that backdrop
From remembering my body
a calligraphic shape
shifting as I sleep
erasing and rewriting itself
like when I used to write over and over on the same line
making an illegible tangle of ink
And now, on the other side of a fake canyon
I stamp overlapping signs
Pressed in sweat
On a cotton page
