In the Hospice
He looks out the window and sees the birds, mostly sparrows, darting
among the branches of a tree. The pane is thick so he can't hear
them, but he can see them singing, beaks nibbling the air, throats
expelling air. A butterfly floats past like a piece of lost confetti.
