sleep

The earth sings me a lullaby of how it drained my love,
sip by sip, while spinning tirelessly
and how you and I kept on moving; like letters with wrong addresses
not reaching anywhere.
Now I see you,
a faraway figure moving far and farther beyond our sky
that was once tinged with love's afterglow,
going somewhere beyond time,
time, that was all ours,
we had measured it in moments
till it stretched to days, years, decades.
The shadows grew longer; you turned to a story
told, re told, and remembered through old photographs.
Now, a thousand years of sleep between us.
