Bio
Brian Kirk is a poet and short story writer from Dublin. He was selected for the Poetry Ireland Introductions series in 2013 and shortlisted for the Patrick Kavanagh Award in 2014 and 2015. His first poetry collection After The Fall was published by Salmon Poetry in 2017. He is a member of the Hibernian Writers Workshop and he blogs at www.briankirkwriter.com.

Mornings
Morning is sacred
and even though you are my child
mornings when you
are in school are precious.
Those who witness
the hours I spend at my desk
find it hard to appreciate
that I am actually working.
Mornings when you are
unwell or on your break
I see my inertia
for what it appears to be:
a grown man
in front of a blank screen
staring out at trees.
