Kevin Casey
Like a penny in your mouth
The well water falling,
clattering to the sandstone slab,
your naked shins splashed
and your hands tawny
from the pump; the smell
of the lake behind you,
rising up the dirt track
on a warm breeze, mingling
with the voices of other children,
bent to catch the icy water.
