ruins

From this room I watch the world
wounded,
grasping to the sky for rain,
rain to cleanse
its rotten parts.

Myself, part
of it all –

Were I to step out,
with me comes ruin
to ruin.

Elijah is an undergraduate student majoring in English literature and minoring in Chinese Language and Culture at the University of Michigan. He intends to go to graduate school for comparative literature.
