Nancy Scott
Things
after Borges
Laptop, ledgers, weekly calendar,
scattered photos and scribbled notes.
Artwork, planters, piles of
Afghan rugs, each with its own story,
unforgettable,
but forgotten when I'm gone.
Many things—French country table,
antique cherry cupboard,
opal brooch, tea-stained letter
from Jakarta.
At my bedside, a white ceramic lamp,
its luminosity holding back the night.
All so fickle and so fine!
They'll outlast me and not care
a wit about my demise.
