Bio


Jessamine O Connor comes from Dublin and lives in county Sligo, Ireland. Her poems have appeared in Abridged; New Irish Writing; this summer's issue of The Stinging Fly; and the Leaf Books anthology Balancing Act. In 2011 they also won the iYeats poetry award, and the Francis Ledwidge award.

That's the silver spoon in her mouth
has her talking like that
He smirked
Irked at how she'd knocked him back
and dressed it in words
he only half heard
over the banging of the band
and music so loud they'd both had to shout

She took away her drinks from the bar
and sat back down
with her friend again
He watched with a frown
Drank his pint nice and slow
and when she went out for a smoke he followed
Later, untangling her hair from his hand
he wondered if he'd gone too far
