Saluting guns, the horse drawn hearse, the crowd
all said the corpse was potent as vermouth.
While gauzy wreaths of praise obscured the shroud,
the graveyard yawned, then slowly shut its mouth;
just above the eulogy, the loud
honking of a flock that's heading south.
