Ants

Poison chalk powder
Airbursts from the plastic play kettle
Oblivious to mild atrocity.

Bodies of their fallen comrades
Littered rainbow tiles like raisins.
Uneaten plastic fruit, soft cotton
Vegetables sat amidst the slaughter.
The wounded staggered lost,
Others carried the dead.

My son laughs in sunlight,
pouring pretend tea at
the wooden hob,
wishes in the wooden sink
and i pretend to drink.
