Twisted frame, a skeletal form,
Lies silent on the ground.

A vacant bowl beside him—
His mocking crown.

An iron bird roars overhead,
Laughing at his fate.

His eyes are speaking—
Perhaps they know

The weight of civil hate.

His silence whispers:
"Who stands at the crest?"
Yet none reach out a hand
To draw him to their breast.
