Down

There's little resistance
to a downy feather
on a morning of hoar frost
and sky this blue,
floating, falling,
not knowing whether or why
down is up or up is true.
That's the cost of being
light as a feather
and in no hurry,
tossed in weather that just now
is turning to a breath – no,
a slight flurry – of snow.
