After Hours
For Jesse Anger, who wished for love and light and who published here before
Bring out the spirits (every kind)
To watch, listen and imbibe
You saw ghosts in every breath and we hung on yours
showman, poet, all the more hardcore than most
would ever know - you rubbed shoulders with luminaries
before taking a drag back to the alleys
making magic then pleasure
you made both
metered for good measure
The midnight light plays tricks, a flicker
helps distill emotions in the glow of a lighter (borrowed)
turns of phrase turn a shade into a giant
then the specter reminds me
of conversations like ours
You now cast no shadow now
but still hold power.
