Allison was born in China but is a kiwi at heart and considers Aotearoa New Zealand to be her home. Her writing has been published in various journals, including Poetry NZ, Landfall, Takahē, The Cortland Review, and Pif Magazine.

Sacred

Basked in the warmth
of a wood burning furnace,
I slip into a butterfly gown
in the heart of winter
with flowers in my hair
and my vintage junk journal
filled with entries of fortune
I have bestowed upon myself

Dancing to the luminous sky
with each nightfall,
I create a sanctuary to
romance my soul as if
I were a bohemian princess,
holding moon magic by
dreamcatcher and the jingle
of my charm bracelet
