Cathy Cavallone
Golden Years
She sits in the dim kitchen,
knee-hi rolled to mid-calf–
pale and
purpled by years–
either swatting at or trying to catch
the swarming
memories,
like flies around the garbage,
of a mind now divorced from
reason,
muttering and cursing at the umbra
of
yesterday.
