Dusk on the Waterfront

Dark
slips
in, drips
black traces
on this bay's ripples,
trifles with such intent at dusk,
dabbles with sun's rays that slide from a slow drifting cloud.
It's still as light as dark, I think, as I stand and watch the quiet rolling skyline fade.
Land nearby soaks up deeper shades of blue-green and gray.
Shadows crawl onto the walkway,
to our feet, that step
and follow
day to
deep
night.
