Rhonda Mae Evens
Heraclitus' Logos

there
are
some oughts
that can't be
broken, fixed ones like
righty tighty lefty loosey
some rules that cannot be broken because of the shame
boy is a boy, girl is a girl
the courageous know
that gender
is not
a
rule
I
soon
forget
the rules that
need no mnemonics,
those imposed by politicos,
held dear with fear that change    will interfere with their lives
yet most grammar rules are.  broken
grammar ruled by slang
will be the
correct
new
law

I
have
a wish
deep within
stop. look. and listen.
widen circles of compassion
not just for kittens and puppies, humor for us all
knock knock, who's there? Olive. Olive
who? what's the punchline?
Olive you
with all
my
heart.
