Hope Chest

That
Old
Hope chest
A girl's dream
A mother's duty
None of these anymore today
All agree that it just takes up space in the cellar
Where the new freezer could sit and that the linen have taken on an unpleasant smell
Years ago when grandmother died most furniture went out right away the sideboard with inlay was sold but that massive old hope chest did stay
The girls ran their fingers through piles of tea towels, quilts, table cloths, sheets but only once
The sheets are not fitted, the monograms do not match
A threaded needle unnoticed
Continues to write
A golden
Spiral's
Back
Stitch
