Akshaya Kannan
Saffron and grime
- a crime solving ghost story
The piece explores the intersection of a cold-case murder investigation and a spiritual ceremony intended to summon ancestral guidance. It follows a skeptical detective who is led by their partner and a chorus of guiding spirits through a mystery set against the backdrop of a rain-soaked ritual. Using rhythmic language and vivid imagery, the poem contrasts pure "saffron" with "grime" as the detective's rationalism clashes with supernatural clues to reveal the final kill and their motive.
