Mourning

As I sit
on this warm evening
I can still smell
the faint, sweet scent of his death
in this room.

Or is it the meadowsweet
and clover and sun-heated earth
breezing in through the open door,
entering with the evening light and birdsong,
saying, "Here, here is life.

Here."
