"... brevity is the soul of wit ..."
- William Shakespeare

Bio

Primarily a humorous poet, Peter Goulding rails at the world from the comfort of his suburban home in Dublin, Ireland. Selected for the Poetry Ireland Introductions series in 2010, he has somehow managed to convince editors in four continents to publish his more serious poetry, usually by promising to go away if they do. He works in a warehouse and wishes he didn't.

Dark Circles

Giant spots of rain,
forming dark circles the size of half-crowns,
splashed down to earth
on the dry stone terrace
and interrupted our seething silence.

Sharp words in the marketplace
were washed away as we
scooped up plates of salad,
drinks, bread rolls
and ran laughing indoors.

By the time we had it all
salvaged in the dining room,
the rain had stopped
and the patio was dry again,
the dark circles forgotten.
